Mount Lincoln (5,089 feet)

Mount Lafayette (R), Mount Lincoln (L) as seen from Old Bridle Path

Mount Lincoln is located on the Franconia Ridge between Mount Lafayette and Little Haystack and is part of one of the most popular "Loop" hikes in the White Mountains (Falling Waters/Franconia Ridge/Old Bridle Path. Views from Mount Lincoln are some of the best around, the Pemigewasset Wilderness and all it's peaks are on one side and the Franconia Notch with Cannon and the Kinsman's are on the other side. The summit is above treeline and one should not venture to it from Little Haystack or Lafayette when the weather is bad especially if forcasts call for Thunderstorms.

Trails I've Hiked

- Falling Waters & Franconia Ridge Trails: 3.9 miles, 3,400 elevation gain.  Falling Waters trail is a scenic trail that crosses the Dry brook passing beneath scenic waterfalls and a cascade.  The trail has moderate grades with some steep pitches, footing ranges from rocky and rooty to soft and easy going along the switchbacks above the last water crossing.  Falling Waters trail pops up above treeline right below Little Haystack summit making in sheltered from bad weather for 99% of its length.  From here you join the Franconia Ridge trail and head north over to Mount Lincoln above treeline with magnificient views of Franconia notch and the Pemigewasset Wilderness.  The Franconia Ridge Trail is well marked, easy to follow with solid rocky footing, his section is exposed to the elements and can be very difficult and extremely dangerous when the weather turns bad.

- Old Bridle Path, Greenleaf Trail, Franconia Ridge Trail: 5.0 miles, 3,850 elevation gain. Located of I-93 at the Lafayette Place parking lot, this trail offers great views into Walker Ravine and the Franconia Ridge especially Mount Lincoln from outlooks as you hike up to Greenleaf Hut (2.9 miles, 2,450 elevation gain).  The trail has moderate grades with decent to rocky footing with two pretty cool fun short sloping rock sections ending at Greenleaf Hut.  From here you ascend the Greenleaf Trail up to the summit of Mount Lafayette then south to Mount Lincoln for a mile via the Franconia Ridge Trail as you head down and up to Mount Truman's summit then down and up again to the summit of Mount Lincoln.  You be above treeline shortly after leaving the hut, the trail is marked with cairns and has rough and rocky footing with moderate grades to Lafayette then 2 up and downs over to Lincoln with the same footing.  If bad weather is upon you your best bet is to turn back and head for the hut.
