Flume Mountain (4,328 feet)

Flume Mountain from Mount Liberty

Flume Mountain is the southern most 4,000 foot mountain in Franconia Notch. It's summit sits above steep jagged cliffs and is located on the Franconia Ridge Trail. Views looking down into Franconia Notch from above the cliffs of Flume summit are quite awesome and there are also very good views into the Pemigewasset Wilderness.

Trails I've Hiked

-Flume Slide Trail: 4.8 miles, 3,000 feet (via Whitehouse Trail and Liberty Springs Trail). The Flume slide trail has moderate grades and easy footing for the first 2.6 miles and then it becomes steep, rough, wild, and difficult for the remaining .7 miles where the trail ascends 1,450 feet up the Flume slide which is usually always wet in most places.  There are some spots where it can be a bit unnerving for hikers who are not comfortable with scrambling up steep rocks with small handholds, for experienced hikers this section of the trail is awesome as long as you are careful!

-Osseo Trail: 5.6 miles, 3,150 feet (via Lincoln Woods Trail). The Osseo Trail has moderate grades and good footing until the upper portion below the ridge where the trail becomes much steeper with ok footing.  the steepest part of the trails has several ladder steps to prevent erosion and to help hikers out.

-Liberty Springs & Franconia Ridge Trails: 4.4 miles, 3,600 feet (via Whitehouse Trail). The Liberty Spring Trail starts off with moderate grades becoming steeper as you ascend.  Footing is generally rough and rugged and parts of the lower section of the trail stay wet and muddy longer than most trails (in my opinion).  The Liberty Springs Campsite is located .3 miles below the junction of the Franconia Ridge Trail.
